British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Air India or a Gulf one-stop? Seats, lounges, UK airports, flight times and fares to India compared, including the UK routes ending this winter.

Schedules and aircraft checked 21 October 2026.

Quick answer

British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Air India fly business class nonstop from Heathrow to Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. BA also flies to Chennai and Hyderabad, and Air India flies Gatwick to Ahmedabad. Flights take about 9–10½ hours. From regional UK airports, a Gulf one-stop is usually best. What you pay depends on your dates, the airline and what is still available.

Key takeaways

  • For the best nonstop seat, British Airways is the most consistent. Every India flight scheduled to February 2027 that we checked uses a Club Suite aircraft with a door. Virgin's A350 and Air India's A350 also have doors, but not on every flight.
  • Nonstops from regional airports are disappearing this winter. IndiGo left Manchester on 31 August 2026 and leaves Heathrow on 25 October 2026. Air India is dropping Gatwick–Amritsar from 25 October and Birmingham–Delhi in early November.
  • Check the aircraft, not just the airline. Air India, Virgin Atlantic and Emirates all fly both new and older business cabins to India.
  • Gulf one-stops are back but still recovering. Emirates says it has restored 96% of its pre-conflict network. Qatar Airways reported 85% in June 2026. Leave plenty of time for connections.
  • Fares: our current fare to Delhi, from each UK airport we price, is on business class flights to Delhi.

This guide compares airlines. If you are still deciding between Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, or need help with arrival timings and entry rules, start with our Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru city guide. Here we cover what you actually buy from each airline: the seat, the lounge, the UK airport and the price. It also covers what has changed on UK–India routes in 2026.

Who flies business class nonstop from the UK to India?

For winter 2026/27, the nonstop market has shrunk to three airlines. Almost all of their flights leave from Heathrow:

  • British Airways flies from Heathrow to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. BA says it runs up to 70 UK–India flights a week, more than any other airline, and gives a flight time of 8 hours 45 minutes to 10 hours 55 minutes. BA is the only nonstop option to Chennai and Hyderabad.
  • Virgin Atlantic flies from Heathrow to Delhi and Mumbai twice a day. It also served Bengaluru 13 times a week in summer 2026. Virgin codeshares with IndiGo for onward domestic flights.
  • Air India flies from Heathrow to Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, and from Gatwick to Ahmedabad on a Boeing 777-300ER. Its other regional routes are being cut this winter. Gatwick–Amritsar ends from 25 October 2026. Birmingham–Delhi ends in early November 2026: AirHelp gives 4 November and the Financial Express gives 1 November. Birmingham–Amritsar was reported to be under review for a winter suspension.

2026 change: IndiGo flew to India from Manchester and Heathrow in 2025–26, but its leased 787s did not have flat beds. Its business cabin, IndiGoStretch, used recliner seats. IndiGo stopped flying to Manchester on 31 August 2026 and leaves Heathrow on 25 October 2026. It plans to return once its own A350s arrive, which it expects in 2027. Any guide that still lists IndiGo as a UK option is out of date.

Flights are taking longer than they used to. Since 28 February 2026, the conflict involving Iran has pushed airlines out of Iranian airspace. Indian carriers are also still barred from Pakistani airspace. The Economic Times reported in March 2026 that Air India's Delhi–London flight was taking more than 12 hours, against about eight before. Current schedules show Heathrow–India flights at about 9 to 10½ hours eastbound. Air India's westbound flights are usually the longest.

Airline-by-airline verdicts

British Airways: the most consistent nonstop product

BA has more nonstop India flights than anyone else, and its Club Suite has become the most dependable product on these routes. Every BA flight to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad in AeroLOPA's 120-day schedule uses a 1-2-1 suite with a closing door. That includes the A350-1000, the refitted 787-8 and the refitted 777-200ER. Business fares include two 32kg checked bags. The downsides are dining and Wi-Fi, which vary by aircraft, and Heathrow fares tend to be higher. More detail is in our British Airways business class guide and our Club Suite vs Upper Class comparison.

Virgin Atlantic: best for the airport experience

Virgin flies Delhi and Mumbai twice a day. The A350-1000 Upper Class Suite has a door and fast Wi-Fi. At Heathrow you get the Upper Class Wing, the Clubhouse lounge and the Revivals arrival lounge, which is useful after an overnight flight home. Some Delhi flights and the Bengaluru flight use the older 787-9, where the herringbone seats face the aisle and have no door. Ask which aircraft you are on. See our Virgin Atlantic Upper Class guide.

Air India: the most variable, but best when you get the right aircraft

Air India now has the widest range of business cabins on these routes. On the A350-900 that flies one Heathrow–Delhi rotation, Head for Points praised the high-walled suites with doors, the 198cm bed and the food and service. It called the experience world class. The new and refurbished 787s have 1-2-1 seats with direct aisle access and flat beds over two metres long. Air India said every Heathrow flight would use new cabins from August 2026. Even so, the October schedule data we checked still showed an older 787-8 in a 2-2-2 layout on the Bengaluru flight. The Gatwick 777-300ER is laid out 2-3-2, so not everyone has direct aisle access, but it does carry First Class. Air India has no lounge of its own at Heathrow and uses Star Alliance lounges in Terminal 2. A new Maharajah Lounge opened at Delhi Terminal 3 in 2026. See our Air India business class guide.

Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad: the regional UK answer

If you live outside the South East, a Gulf one-stop often beats travelling down to Heathrow. Emirates flies from seven UK airports, and from 25 October 2026 it will put an A380 on one of its four daily Dubai–Delhi flights. Mumbai and Bengaluru already have the A380. Qatar's Qsuite, with a door and double-bed pairs in the centre, is one of the most private business seats from the UK. The Doha–India flight, though, may use a different cabin. Etihad flies from Heathrow and Manchester. All three hubs were hit by the 2026 conflict and are still rebuilding. Emirates said in October that it had restored 96% of its pre-conflict network. Qatar reported 85% in June. Compare the two hubs in our Doha vs Dubai stopover guide and our Qsuite vs Emirates comparison. There are also guides to Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad.

European one-stops: Turkish, Lufthansa, KLM and Air France

European hubs avoid the Gulf altogether and can help when Gulf fares are high or a Gulf connection doesn't suit you. Seat quality varies by aircraft, so check the seat map. Most of these airlines serve the larger Indian cities rather than the whole country. See our guides to Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, KLM and Air France.

For the Midlands and the North, the choice is usually a Gulf one-stop from your own airport or a train to Heathrow for a nonstop. How much is business class to India from the UK?

Business class fares to India change with the season, the airline and how many seats are left. Our current fare to Delhi, from each UK airport we price, is on business class flights to Delhi. Use it as a starting point when you compare quotes.

Fares change with your dates and availability. Low headline fares are usually one-stops with long connections, or dates that have already passed. Taxes, fare rules and availability vary.

KAYAK's data puts the high season in December and the low season in June. Christmas, the New Year and Diwali are when business seats sell out first. Fares on the Gulf routes have also been unsettled since the 2026 disruption. Several points matter more than the headline price:

  • Fare brand: cheaper business fares can restrict changes, seat selection or lounge access. Our guide to business class fare types explains the differences.
  • Baggage: BA and Virgin both include two 32kg bags in business. For weight-based allowances and partner airlines, see our baggage allowance guide.
  • Premium economy: on a daytime flight to Delhi, it can be a reasonable compromise. See premium economy flights.

How to book business class to India: step by step

  1. Choose the Indian city first. Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru have the most nonstop options. For Chennai and Hyderabad, only BA flies nonstop. For Goa, Kochi, Kolkata, Jaipur or Amritsar, you will connect. Our city guide can help you decide.
  2. Choose your UK airport honestly. Compare Heathrow nonstops with a one-stop from your own airport, door to door.
  3. Check the aircraft and seat map. Look for 1-2-1 seating and a door if privacy matters. Our guide on why aircraft type matters shows how.
  4. Compare fare brands, not just prices. Check change fees, refunds, seat selection and miles earned.
  5. If you're connecting, check the connection time and the hub. Allow extra time in the Gulf while schedules recover. Our connecting airports guide has more.
  6. Sort your entry permission early. Most UK visitors need permission to enter India before they travel. Check the GOV.UK India travel advice and apply only through official channels.
  7. Get a written quote and check what protection applies. Make sure the quote names the operating airline, aircraft, fare rules and the ATOL protection on your booking.
  8. Recheck before you fly. Aircraft swaps happen. See what happens if your aircraft changes.

Expert tips for business class to India

  • Pick your flight time to suit your plans. Most evening departures from London arrive in India the next morning. Daytime flights, such as some Air India, BA and Virgin departures, land around or just after midnight. That suits leisure travellers who want to go straight to bed.
  • Don't book an older cabin by mistake. Watch for the 2-3-2 and 2-2-2 layouts on some Air India aircraft, the older 787-9 at Virgin, and older 777s at Emirates. These matter most if you are travelling alone.
  • Use the arrival lounge. Virgin's Revivals lounge at Heathrow helps if you're going straight into a meeting after the overnight flight home.
  • Use your loyalty scheme. BA is oneworld, Air India is Star Alliance, and Virgin is SkyTeam and also partners with IndiGo. Crediting to the right scheme can earn you lounge access or upgrades on later trips.
  • Check lounges at the hub. If you are connecting in Doha or Dubai, see our lounge comparison. Our guide to lounge rules on partner airlines covers mixed-airline tickets.
  • Allow for the time difference. India is 5½ hours ahead of the UK in winter and 4½ hours ahead during British Summer Time.
  • Check travel advice for transit hubs. Look at FCDO advice for any Gulf country you connect through, as well as for India.

Business Class Flights from the UK to India: Airlines, Routes and Prices Compared — FAQs

Prefer to talk? 07862 620009 .

Which airlines fly business class direct from the UK to India?

British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Air India. All three fly nonstop from Heathrow to Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. BA also flies to Chennai and Hyderabad, and Air India flies Gatwick to Ahmedabad. IndiGo ends its last UK route, Heathrow, on 25 October 2026.

How much does business class to India cost from the UK?

It depends on the city, the airline, your UK airport and the season. We publish a current business class fare to Delhi from each UK airport we price. One-stops via the Gulf or Europe usually cost less than the nonstops, and December and Diwali are the busiest times. Fares change with your dates and availability.

What is the cheapest way to fly business class to Delhi from the UK?

Usually a one-stop via the Gulf or Europe, booked away from December and school holidays. Of the nonstops, Air India was often priced below BA and Virgin in the fares we checked. Compare the aircraft before you choose, because the cheapest fare may come with an older cabin.

How long is a business class flight from London to India?

Nonstop flights from Heathrow take about 9 to 10½ hours eastbound. BA quotes 8 hours 45 minutes to 10 hours 55 minutes. Air India's westbound flights can take longer because Indian airlines cannot use Pakistani airspace. A Gulf one-stop adds a connection to about 7 hours to the hub plus about 3 hours on to India.

Can you fly business class to Mumbai direct from London?

Yes. British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Air India all fly Heathrow to Mumbai nonstop. Virgin flies twice a day and BA several times a day. IndiGo's Heathrow–Mumbai flight ends on 25 October 2026.

Can you fly direct to India from Manchester, Birmingham or Gatwick?

From late 2026, there are no nonstops from Manchester. Birmingham–Delhi ends in early November 2026, and Birmingham–Amritsar may be suspended for the winter. From Gatwick, Air India flies to Ahmedabad, but Gatwick–Amritsar ends on 25 October 2026. Gulf one-stops cover all three airports.

Is there first class from the UK to Delhi or Bangalore?

There are very few options. Air India's UK First Class flew on the 777-300ER from Gatwick and Birmingham, and most of those routes are being cut. Emirates says it offers First on its Delhi flights and flies the A380 to Bengaluru, so Dubai is the most realistic First Class route.

Is premium economy to Delhi worth it instead of business class?

Sometimes. On a daytime flight to Delhi of about 9 to 10 hours, premium economy is a reasonable saving. On an overnight flight, or if you have meetings the next day, a flat bed in business class is usually worth paying more for.
