Ottawa is the cheapest Canadian destination we sell, and it has a nonstop from London. It is also the one where which UK airport you fly from matters more than anywhere else in Canada — the gap between the cheapest and dearest departure is over a thousand pounds for the same cabin to the same city.
Business Class starts from £1,649 return, and that fare is from Manchester rather than London. The rest of the country sits under Business Class flights to Canada, and the wider programme under Business Class flights from the UK.
| UK departure | Business Class from | Difference vs Manchester |
|---|---|---|
| Manchester | £1,649 — cheapest | — |
| London Heathrow | £1,967 | Around £320 more |
| Birmingham | £2,169 | Around £520 more |
| Glasgow | £2,324 | Around £675 more |
| Newcastle | £2,658 — dearest | Over £1,000 more |
Per passenger, return. Excl. taxes and carrier charges. Subject to availability.
That is the widest spread between UK departures of any Canadian destination on our books, and one of the widest anywhere in our programme. It is the single most useful thing to know about this route.
Manchester is cheapest and London is second, which reverses the usual pattern — and London holds the only nonstop. So the Manchester fare buys a connection and the London fare buys a direct flight, for roughly three hundred pounds more.
The Newcastle figure deserves a straight word. At over a thousand pounds above Manchester for the same cabin to the same city, it is not a fare we would let a north-east traveller accept without first pricing a Manchester departure alongside. The difference is large enough to cover getting to Manchester several times over.
The same applies to Glasgow and, to a lesser degree, Birmingham. On most routes we would tell you a regional saving rarely justifies restructuring a journey. On Ottawa it plainly can.
Unusual enough to be worth measuring. We checked Ottawa against every destination we sell.
| Destination | Gap between cheapest and dearest UK departure |
|---|---|
| Grenada | Around £1,270 |
| Jamaica | Around £1,260 |
| Phoenix | Around £1,110 |
| Ottawa | Around £1,010 |
| Calgary | Around £40 |
Only three destinations in our entire programme have a wider gap between UK departures than Ottawa does — Grenada, Jamaica and Phoenix. Everything else in the world we sell is tighter.
Calgary is in the table for contrast, because it is the opposite extreme: all five of its UK departures sit within about forty pounds of each other. Two Canadian destinations, two completely different pictures, and the reason we will not give you a general rule about regional departures that holds everywhere.
The practical takeaway is simple. On most routes, asking us to check a second UK airport is a marginal exercise. On Ottawa it is the single most valuable thing you can do before booking.
| Airline | From | When |
|---|---|---|
| Air Canada | London Heathrow | Year-round |
| Air Transat | London Gatwick | Seasonal — added from summer 2026 |
Air Canada's Heathrow service is the year-round backbone of the route. Air Transat added a seasonal Gatwick service from summer 2026, which gives the route a second London airport for part of the year.
No UK airport outside London has an Ottawa nonstop. Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Newcastle all connect — which is what makes the Manchester fare interesting rather than simply cheap.
One thing to weigh: a single year-round operator is a thinner safety net than a route with two competing carriers. If an Air Canada flight is disrupted outside the Gatwick season, the alternatives on the same day are limited.
It is worth understanding what kind of airport you are flying into, because it shapes the sensible way to book.
Ottawa's largest international route is Paris Charles de Gaulle, which carried 160,657 passengers in 2024. For a national capital that is a modest figure, and it tells you the airport's long-haul network is compact rather than broad.
That is not a criticism of the airport — it reflects the fact that Canada's international traffic concentrates at Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. But it does mean that if your onward plans go beyond Ottawa, you should think about which Canadian airport you actually want to arrive at rather than assuming the capital is the obvious answer.
It also means the London nonstop is worth more here than a nonstop is on a better-connected route. When the alternatives are thin, a flight that goes straight there carries a premium in convenience that the fare table does not show.
There is a second consequence worth naming. On a route where the capital's international network is concentrated into a handful of services, disruption has fewer places to go. A cancelled flight at Toronto is an inconvenience because something else is leaving within hours. A cancelled flight into Ottawa outside the Gatwick season is a different problem, because one airline carries the year-round nonstop rather than two competing for the same passengers.
None of that is an argument against the destination. It is an argument for building a little slack into the itinerary, booking the whole journey on one ticket, and not scheduling anything immovable for the morning after you are due to land.
Business Class to Ottawa starts from £1,649 return per passenger and subject to availability. Other cabins on the same route: Economy from £856, Premium Economy flights from the UK from £1,104, and First Class flights from the UK from £2,869.
Premium Economy sits at around two thirds of the Business fare — a conventional gap. First Class is about three quarters again above Business, a wider step than several Canadian destinations offer but nowhere near the extremes.
| Destination | Business Class from | First Class from | UK nonstop? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ottawa | £1,649 — cheapest in Canada | £2,869 | Yes |
| Edmonton | £1,749 | £2,469 | No |
| Toronto | £1,847 | £2,925 | Yes |
| Vancouver | £1,847 | £3,225 | Yes |
| Calgary | £1,914 | £2,883 | Yes |
| Montreal | £2,349 | £4,869 | Yes |
Ottawa is the lowest Business Class fare of any Canadian destination we sell, and it is several hundred pounds below Montreal at the top of the table.
That matters more than it might appear, because Ottawa and Montreal are near enough to each other that a trip into eastern Canada can frequently be built around either. If your plans are flexible about which of the two you land at, the fare difference is substantial and worth checking before you fix the city.
In First Class the picture reverses somewhat. Ottawa's First fare is not the bargain its Business fare is, and Edmonton's is several hundred pounds lower. If the front cabin is what you are after, the Canadian ladder rewards looking across it rather than starting from the cheapest Business fare.
Ottawa is five hours behind the UK for most of the year. Ontario observes daylight saving as Britain does, so the gap holds steady apart from short windows each spring and autumn when the two countries switch on different dates.
Five hours sits at the friendly end of the Canadian range and it changes the character of the trip. An Ottawa morning overlaps properly with a British afternoon, so a working day at each end genuinely meets rather than brushing past.
Westbound you gain the hours and land with the afternoon ahead of you. Eastbound you lose them on an overnight and arrive in Britain in the morning — the harder half of the round trip, and the sector the cabin is really for.
The recovery is mild. Most people settle a five-hour shift within a day, which means arrival day can hold something more demanding than it could after a flight to western Canada.
We did not sample a block time for Ottawa and will not publish one we did not see.
What we can tell you is the shape. From Heathrow it is a single sector each way with no connection. From Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow or Newcastle, add a connection — and at Manchester in particular, that connection is what the low fare is buying.
Ottawa sits on the eastern side of the continent, so the crossing is among the shorter transatlantic flights, which is part of why the time shift is manageable.
| Cabin | From | The case for it |
|---|---|---|
| Economy | £856 | A long way below the premium cabins |
| Premium Economy | £1,104 | Around two thirds of Business — a conventional gap |
| Business Class | £1,649 | The cheapest Business fare in our Canadian programme |
| First Class | £2,869 | About three quarters again above Business |
On a five-hour shift the case for Business is narrower than on a long-haul route, and we would rather say so. The crossing is among the shorter ones and westbound it is in daylight.
Where it earns its place is the return. An overnight eastbound that hands back five hours and puts you into Britain in the morning is the sector worth being comfortable on. If you buy the cabin one way, buy it for that one.
Premium Economy is a genuine option here at around two thirds of the Business fare, particularly westbound. First Class is a wider step than it is to Edmonton, so if the front cabin matters more than the city, look across the Canadian table before committing.
And remember the departure airport question outranks the cabin question on this route. The difference between Manchester and Newcastle in Business is larger than the difference between Business and Premium Economy.
If you have a criminal record or have been arrested, contact the Canadian High Commission before you travel. It may affect whether you are allowed to enter, and establishing admissibility takes time rather than a form filled in the week before departure.
Four of the five UK departures connect, and the cheapest one is among them — so this applies to most travellers here.
| If a flight is delayed | One through ticket | Two separate bookings |
|---|---|---|
| Getting you to Ottawa | The airline's problem | Yours, at your own cost |
| Minimum connection | Protected | Whatever you guessed |
| Bags | Usually checked through | Collect and re-check |
| Missing the onward sector | Rebooked, usually with a hotel | A new fare and a room you pay for |
This carries extra weight at Ottawa because the onward options are thin. On a route where the capital's own long-haul network is compact and one airline carries it year-round, a missed connection is not a short wait for the next departure.
From Manchester. The cheapest fare in the Canadian programme, with a connection attached. If Manchester is your airport, this is a straightforwardly good deal and there is little to weigh.
From London. Around three hundred pounds more, and it buys the nonstop. Given how thin the alternatives are on this route, that is a defensible premium rather than a penalty — and if you are near Heathrow, it is the obvious choice.
From the Midlands. Birmingham sits several hundred pounds above Manchester. Price both, along with London. For a Midlands traveller all three are realistically reachable and the spread is wide enough to matter.
From Scotland. Glasgow is among the dearest. A Manchester departure is worth pricing even allowing for getting there, because the gap is large.
From the north east. Newcastle is over a thousand pounds above Manchester for the identical cabin. We would not book it without showing you the Manchester alternative first.
For a business traveller. The Heathrow nonstop, in most cases. On a route with one year-round operator and a compact onward network, removing the connection removes the main risk to a fixed commitment.
A five-hour westbound shift is the gentlest transatlantic arrival there is, and it changes what your first day can hold.
You land with the afternoon still in front of you and your body insisting it is early evening. Bridging that is far easier than the seven or eight hours the western Canadian cities demand, and the standard advice — stay up until local bedtime rather than sleeping on arrival — is much less of an ordeal on five hours than on eight.
On the Heathrow nonstop you clear Canadian immigration at Ottawa itself, which is a smaller and quicker process than at the major hubs. On a connecting itinerary you clear it at whichever Canadian airport you reach first — Toronto or Montreal, most likely — with your onward flight time running. That is the argument for a generous transfer rather than the tightest one the booking system offers.
A meeting the morning after you land is reasonable to schedule here. We would still keep the first few hours after arrival light, but this is not a trip that needs a recovery day designed into it.
The Gatwick option is worth a paragraph of its own, because it behaves differently from the rest of the route.
Air Transat's Ottawa service was added from summer 2026 and runs seasonally. That means two things for a traveller. If your dates fall inside the season, you have a choice of London airports, which matters a great deal if Gatwick is your natural one. If they fall outside it, Air Canada's Heathrow flight is the only nonstop there is.
A new seasonal route is also worth checking rather than assuming. Schedules on recently added services settle over their first seasons, so we confirm what is actually selling on your dates rather than working from what was announced.
For anyone flexible on timing, this creates a genuine planning lever. Shifting a trip by a few weeks to fall inside the season can change which London airport you fly from, and for a traveller in the south east that is sometimes worth more than a fare difference.
It suits you if you are near Manchester, because the cheapest Business fare in our Canadian programme is sitting at your local airport and it is not close.
It suits you if the mild time difference matters — five hours is manageable and the working days genuinely overlap.
It suits you if Ottawa specifically is where you need to be, and the London nonstop is available on your dates.
It suits you less if you are departing from Newcastle or Glasgow without the flexibility to consider another airport, because the fares from there are a long way above what the same journey costs elsewhere in Britain.
It suits you less if your plans run well beyond Ottawa. The airport's long-haul network is compact, and Toronto or Montreal may be the better arrival point.
Send us your dates, your nearest UK airport and who is travelling. We will show you the Manchester fare against your local one so the spread is visible rather than buried, check whether the seasonal Gatwick service covers your dates, price the Heathrow nonstop honestly against the connecting options, build the journey on one ticket, and tell you if Montreal would serve your plans better.
Business Class availability to Ottawa is sold in limited buckets, so moving a departure or return by a day or two can change which fares are open to you.
We hold fares from 5 UK departure points to Ottawa, and they are not the same. Tell us which airports you can realistically use and we will compare them together.
Two fares to Ottawa at a similar price can differ on connection time, total journey time, cabin on each sector, baggage and how the ticket can be changed.
A lower fare with a very long layover, an overnight wait or a change of terminal may not be better value than a slightly higher fare with a shorter, simpler connection.
If your plans could move, ask about change and cancellation conditions before you book. Flexibility is part of the price, and it is worth pricing deliberately.
We compare premium-cabin itineraries to Ottawa from UK airports, not from a single gateway, so your realistic departure options are priced together.
We look at the routing, connection, cabin on each sector and fare conditions alongside the price, rather than quoting only the lowest headline number.
A UK travel consultant answers your enquiry, so you can ask about routings, seats and timings that an automated search will not explain.
Your quote confirms the flights, operating carrier, cabin, baggage allowance and fare conditions in writing before you pay anything.
My Upcoming Trip is a UK travel agency specialising in premium cabins. We book Ottawa regularly, so you are talking to someone who knows the route rather than reading a listing. Our fares to Ottawa (YOW) are our own, priced from London, Manchester, Birmingham and other UK airports. What you pay depends on your dates, the airline and what is still available when we quote, so treat the figure above as a starting point. Before you pay we confirm the itinerary, the airline, the cabin actually fitted on your aircraft, the baggage allowance and the fare conditions in writing. If a neighbouring The Americas route would suit you better, we will price that alongside it and tell you honestly which one we would book.
Send us your dates and we will price the itinerary by hand, confirm availability and set out the fare conditions in writing.
