Five, and Qatar Airways flies all of them. Only Dubai has a wider UK network in this region, and only three other destinations we sell anywhere reach five or more British airports without a change.
Edinburgh is the one to notice. It has a Doha nonstop but no Abu Dhabi one, no Bahrain one and no Saudi one — so for Scotland this is the most directly connected Gulf city after Dubai.

Hamad International is one of the world's major connecting hubs, and a large share of UK travellers meet it on the way somewhere else — to Asia, Australasia, the Indian subcontinent or east Africa. Two things about that are worth knowing before you book.
First, British Airways currently sells Dubai through Doha. Its own Dubai nonstop is suspended until 25 October 2026, so a British Airways-marketed Dubai itinerary today routes through here. If you are looking at Doha because a booking engine offered it as a connection rather than a destination, that is why.
Second, and more important: Qatar's rules do not let transit passengers stay in the transit area for more than 24 hours, even with a transit hotel booked. A long self-arranged layover is not the free stopover people sometimes imagine. If your connection is a long one, tell us and we will look at whether you should be entering the country properly rather than waiting airside.
A connecting journey sold as Business Class does not always mean Business Class on each leg, because the long-haul and regional aircraft can be configured quite differently. Ask which cabin applies to each sector rather than to the ticket. We confirm it before you book, every time.

Doha is the Gulf city you can arrive in and be downtown on a train. Hamad International has a Doha Metro station inside Terminal 1, on the Red Line, running directly into the centre — no airport bus, no hire car, no negotiating a fare at two in the morning. Nowhere else in the region we sell makes the arrival that simple. Business Class starts from £2,333 return.
Five UK airports fly there without a change of plane, which is second only to Dubai in this region. The rest of the Gulf sits under Business Class flights to the Middle East, and the wider programme under Business Class flights from the UK.

|---|---|---|
| London | £2,333 | Yes — Heathrow and Gatwick |
| Birmingham | £2,373 | Yes |
| Manchester | £2,433 | Yes |
| Glasgow | £2,473 | No — connecting |
| Newcastle | £2,533 | No — connecting |
Per passenger, return. Excl. taxes and carrier charges. Subject to availability.
The spread is modest and it runs the usual way — London cheapest, the further north you go the more you pay. What the fare column does not show is that the first three rows are nonstops and the last two are not, which matters more than the money. If you are in Birmingham or Manchester, the small premium over London buys you a direct flight from your own airport rather than a train south.
Business Class to Doha starts from £2,333 return per passenger and subject to availability. Other cabins on the same route: Economy from £706, Premium Economy flights from the UK from £1,523, and First Class flights from the UK from £4,847.
Doha and Abu Dhabi are the two most expensive Business Class fares in our Middle East programme, well above Dubai for a flight of almost identical length. If the fare is what decides your trip and the city is not, that comparison is worth making explicitly before you book.
We checked what was genuinely on sale on 15 November 2026, departing London Heathrow. Real bookable itineraries on one day's availability, not a timetable.
| Option that day | Total time | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Nonstop | 6h 45m – 7h 05m | British Airways, plus Qatar Airways on the same route |
| From Birmingham, Manchester or Edinburgh | A comparable sector | Qatar Airways, and no journey to London |
| From Glasgow or Newcastle | Longer, with a change | Which is what those fares buy |
Under seven hours is the fact most people get wrong about the Gulf. Doha is a shorter flight than every American city we sell except Boston, and shorter than anywhere in Asia, Africa or Australasia.
Qatar is three hours ahead of the UK for most of the year. That is the smallest time difference of any destination in our Middle East programme and one of the smallest anywhere we fly.
Three hours is barely a displacement at all. A Doha morning is a UK breakfast, a Doha afternoon is a UK lunchtime, and a full working day at either end overlaps with the other. You can hold calls with home at civilised hours in both directions, which on a short business trip is worth more than almost anything else about the journey.
It also means jet lag is close to negligible. Whether you arrive able to work depends almost entirely on whether you slept on the flight — which is the clearest argument for the flat bed we can make anywhere, because there is no time zone to blame.
With five nonstops the answer is usually your nearest one, but three things are worth weighing before you default to it.
Frequency. London has by far the most departures, with Qatar Airways flying from both Heathrow and Gatwick and British Airways from Heathrow. If you need a specific departure time — an overnight arriving in the morning for a meeting, or a daytime flight so you sleep at the hotel rather than on the aeroplane — London simply offers more to choose from.
Your ground journey. For Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh the premium over London is modest and it buys you a flight from your own airport. Against the cost of a train south, a night before and the return journey, the regional nonstop usually wins comfortably.
Onward connections. If Doha is a hub on the way to Asia or Australasia rather than your destination, the UK departure matters less than the connection at the far end. Tell us the whole journey and we will work backwards from the leg that actually constrains it.
Glasgow and Newcastle have no nonstop. For those two the realistic options are a connecting itinerary or a domestic hop to a nonstop airport, and which is better depends on how long you are going for. We will price both.
This is worth saying plainly, because a great deal of UK business in the Gulf is regional rather than tied to one country, and the two cities sit at very different fares.
Bahrain is a short hop across the water, has three UK nonstops to Doha's five, and carries a markedly lower Business Class fare. If your work takes you around the Gulf rather than specifically to Qatar, it is a genuine alternative base — and if you are visiting both, flying into one and home from the other is usually a better booking than a return to either.
There is a real difference in what the two airports do, though. Hamad International is a global connecting hub with long-haul routes in every direction. Bahrain's network is overwhelmingly regional — its busiest routes are Dubai, Doha, Riyadh and Kuwait City, with London sitting well down the list. So Doha gives you far more onward options, and Bahrain gives you a cheaper way in.
Tell us which cities the trip actually needs to touch and we will price the sensible shape rather than assuming a return to whichever one you named first.
| Cabin | From | The honest case on a seven-hour flight |
|---|---|---|
| Economy | £706 | Seven hours is survivable, and a three-hour change is nothing |
| Premium Economy | £1,523 | More space on a daytime sector; it reclines rather than lies flat |
| Business Class | £2,333 | A flat bed on the overnight leg, which is where this route is won |
| First Class | £4,847 | Around twice the Business Class fare here |
The step up to First on Doha runs to roughly double the Business Class fare — the same ratio as Abu Dhabi, and mid-range for the region. It is a smaller multiple than Bahrain, where First is more than three times Business, and larger than Riyadh or Muscat, where it is closer to seven-tenths again.
Not every aircraft on the route carries a First cabin, so the first question is whether it is even flying on your dates. We check that before we quote rather than after.
Two airlines fly the Heathrow nonstop and they do not fly the same front cabin. Neither operates only one aircraft type, so the seat varies by aircraft more than by airline — and with five UK departures you are choosing between aircraft as much as between airports.
The questions worth asking are short. Does every seat have direct access to the aisle, or do some passengers step over a neighbour? Does it lie genuinely flat, or at an angle? Is there a door? How wide is the bed at the shoulder rather than at the seat cushion? On an overnight sector those four answers are most of what you are paying for.
Layouts differ enormously between aircraft. In a 1-2-1 staggered cabin the middle pair are sometimes side by side and sometimes separated by a console; in other layouts you may be angled away from each other for the whole flight. If sitting together matters, tell us and we will check the seat map.
Every UK nonstop lands at Hamad International (DOH), and the arrival is the easiest in the region. The airport has its own Doha Metro station at Terminal 1, on the Red Line, running directly into downtown Doha. Four regional bus routes also serve the terminal, one of them into the centre.
That is a genuine practical advantage and it is worth planning around. On a short trip it removes the transfer question entirely: you land, walk to the platform and you are in the city. Compare that with Abu Dhabi or Muscat, where the drive in is a real leg of the journey.
If you are connecting rather than stopping, remember the 24-hour limit on remaining airside, and tell us about the onward leg so we can build in realistic time rather than the minimum a booking engine will sell you.
The UK business flow into Doha runs to energy and LNG above all, and around it finance, sovereign investment, construction and infrastructure, sport and events, law and professional services. It generates a lot of repeat travel, and repeat travel rewards getting the pattern right once.
Three things make a short trip work. The flight is under seven hours. The time difference is three hours, so you keep almost the whole working day in common with home. And five UK airports have a nonstop, so most business travellers can leave from their own city rather than positioning to Heathrow the night before.
What to plan around is the airside rule if your journey involves a long connection, and the health insurance requirement if you are staying more than a month — both are covered below and both catch people out.
The leisure version of Doha has changed faster than most people's impression of it. It is a compact, walkable-in-parts capital built along a corniche, with a serious museum and gallery programme, a restored old market district, and desert and coast within easy reach of the city. It suits a long weekend or a stopover of a few days better than a fortnight.
That last point is the practical one. Because Hamad International is a major hub, a great many UK travellers can add Doha to a journey they were making anyway — breaking a trip to Asia or Australasia rather than flying straight through. If you are heading further east, ask us to price it with a few nights here against flying direct. It frequently costs less than people expect.
All five UK nonstops run year-round, so there is no seasonal service to time your dates around.
Plan around the climate and the calendar instead. The Gulf summer is severe, and the months either side of it are a different trip from the winter ones. Qatar also hosts a dense programme of international sport and conferences, and those dates fill the city and its hotels well beyond what the season alone would suggest.
We do not publish a cheapest month for Doha. We have no evidence for one, and we would rather price your actual dates than repeat a claim we cannot support.
British citizens travelling on a full British citizen passport get a tourist visa on arrival. You must still arrange a visa in advance if you are travelling for any purpose other than tourism, or if you hold another type of British passport.
Your passport should be valid for at least six months from the date you arrive.
Three things catch people out, and all three are specific to Qatar:
Staying beyond 30 days. You must extend the visa waiver before it expires, through the Ministry of Interior. If you do not, a fine becomes payable — and it must be paid before you are allowed to leave the country.
Staying beyond 30 days also means health insurance. You must buy it from a registered Ministry of Public Health provider before you travel. The standard premium is 50 Qatari riyals per person per month.
Transit has a time limit. Travellers cannot remain in the transit area for more than 24 hours between flights, even if booked into the airport transit hotel.
Two customs points worth knowing. It is illegal to import or sell vapes and e-cigarettes, including the liquids and electronic shisha products, regardless of quantity or intended use — customs may confiscate them from luggage or posted packages. And you must complete a declaration for money, precious metals or gems worth more than 50,000 Qatari riyals.
Read the current guidance at GOV.UK Qatar entry requirements. Rules change — check before you book and again before you travel. We cannot give immigration advice.
We researched all eight Middle East destinations on the same day, so these are directly comparable.
| Destination | UK airports with a nonstop | Nonstop time | Business Class from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dubai | Eight | 6h 45m | £1,365 |
| Doha | Five | 6h 45m | £2,333 |
| Jeddah | Four | 6h 05m | £1,460 |
| Bahrain | Three | 6h 40m | £1,346 |
| Abu Dhabi | Two | 6h 50m | £2,565 |
| Muscat | One | Oman Air, Heathrow only | £1,444 |
Doha is second only to Dubai for UK access and matches it almost exactly on flight time — but it sits at the top of the fare range rather than the bottom. Bahrain is a forty-minute hop away and considerably cheaper, which is worth knowing if your business is regional rather than specifically Qatari.
Business Class availability to Doha is sold in limited buckets, so moving a departure or return by a day or two can change which fares are open to you.
We hold fares from 5 UK departure points to Doha, and they are not the same. Tell us which airports you can realistically use and we will compare them together.
Two fares to Doha at a similar price can differ on connection time, total journey time, cabin on each sector, baggage and how the ticket can be changed.
A lower fare with a very long layover, an overnight wait or a change of terminal may not be better value than a slightly higher fare with a shorter, simpler connection.
If your plans could move, ask about change and cancellation conditions before you book. Flexibility is part of the price, and it is worth pricing deliberately.
Doha is straightforward to reach and less straightforward to get right. Five UK airports have a nonstop but two big ones do not. The fare sits at the top of the Gulf range while a cheaper neighbour is forty minutes away. A long connection here runs into a 24-hour airside limit that catches people out. And a stay of more than a month needs both a visa extension and health insurance bought in advance.
What we add is a straight comparison with Dubai and Bahrain before you commit, the right UK departure for where you actually live, the cabin on every sector if you are connecting onward, and a realistic view of what a long layover here involves.
Send us your dates, your nearest UK airport and what the trip is for. If you are comparing, Business Class flights to Dubai is the region's most widely served city and Business Class flights to Bahrain the closest alternative hub.
My Upcoming Trip is a UK travel agency specialising in premium cabins. We book Doha regularly, so you are talking to someone who knows the route rather than reading a listing. Our fares to Doha (DOH) are our own, priced from London, Birmingham, Manchester and other UK airports. What you pay depends on your dates, the airline and what is still available when we quote, so treat the figure above as a starting point. Before you pay we confirm the itinerary, the airline, the cabin actually fitted on your aircraft, the baggage allowance and the fare conditions in writing. If a neighbouring Middle East & Gulf route would suit you better, we will price that alongside it and tell you honestly which one we would book.
Send us your dates and we will price the itinerary by hand, confirm availability and set out the fare conditions in writing.
