Air Canada business class from the UK: which Signature Class seat is on your flight?

Air Canada flies nonstop from Heathrow to five Canadian cities, so for most UK travellers to Canada there is no connection to judge at all. Every long-haul business seat is sold as Signature Class, but it now comes on two very different aircraft: a widebody with a 1-2-1 flat-bed cabin, or the new single-aisle Airbus A321XLR with just 14 flat beds. Neither has a closing door. We tell you which aircraft is scheduled on your flight number before you commit.

Quick answer

Air Canada Business Class from the UK, in short

Air Canada business class from the UK is Signature Class on a nonstop flight: from London Heathrow direct to Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary or Ottawa, and from Manchester direct to Toronto. On the Boeing 787, 777 and A330 you get a flat bed with direct aisle access but no door; the new single-aisle A321XLR has 14 flat beds angled towards the aisle. Tell us your flight number and we confirm the aircraft before you pay. Call 07862 620009.

  • Nonstop from Heathrow to five Canadian cities
  • Signature Class: flat bed, direct aisle access
  • A321XLR arriving on some UK routes from late 2026
  • Star Alliance founding member · Aeroplan

01 What you are buying when you book Air Canada from the UK

For Canada, Air Canada is usually a nonstop, not a connection. From London Heathrow it flies direct to Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa, as well as Halifax, and from Manchester it flies direct to Toronto. If your trip ends in one of those cities, you are judging one flight and one seat.

That makes the decision simpler than it is with a Gulf or Asian carrier. There is no second sector to check and no hub connection to protect. The questions that matter are fewer: which aircraft is on your flight number, whether it crosses overnight or in daylight, and how the fare on your dates compares with the other airline flying the same route.

It changes if Canada is only part of the journey. Air Canada's hubs at Toronto Pearson, Montreal-Trudeau and Vancouver also feed onward flights across Canada and into the United States. On those itineraries the transatlantic sector is only half of what you are buying, and the onward flight is often a shorter-haul aircraft with a different seat.

For city-level detail and current fares, start with business class flights to Toronto or business class flights to Vancouver. This guide is about the airline and the cabin.

02 Signature Class on a widebody, or on the new A321XLR

Air Canada sells one business cabin name, Signature Class, and lists it on its mainline Boeing 787, Boeing 777, Airbus A330 and Airbus A321XLR aircraft. From the UK you will meet one of two quite different experiences.

No door

Widebody Signature Class

  • Boeing 787, 777 or Airbus A330, depending on the route and the day.
  • 1-2-1 reverse-herringbone — direct aisle access from every seat.
  • Fully flat bed; Air Canada quotes up to 203.2 cm long.
  • 20 business seats on the 787-8 and 30 on the 787-9.
  • No sliding door, which newer rival business seats increasingly fit.
No door

A321XLR Signature Class

  • A single-aisle jet with 14 lie-flat seats and 168 economy seats.
  • Herringbone layout, each seat angled towards the aisle.
  • 19-inch 4K screen, Bluetooth audio, USB-C and AC power.
  • Air Canada chose no doors, trading them for a more open feel.
  • Entered service in summer 2026, and reaches Heathrow from Ottawa and Halifax in December 2026.

The honest summary: both give you a flat bed and your own way to the aisle; neither gives you a door. The widebody cabin is the larger, more established product. The A321XLR has newer finishes and a bigger screen, but it is a small cabin on a single-aisle aircraft, with fewer business seats to go round.

The seat with a door is still to come. Air Canada has announced a reverse-herringbone seat with sliding doors, plus four larger Signature Plus suites, for its Boeing 787-10. It has not said which routes that aircraft will fly first, so do not pay a premium on the assumption that it will be on your UK flight.

03 How to know which aircraft you are booked on before you pay

With Air Canada the question is less "which seat" and more "which aircraft", because the aircraft decides the cabin size, the bed count and often the time of day you fly.

  1. Work from the flight number. Toronto–Heathrow will have up to five daily flights from May 2027, and they are not all the same aircraft. The new morning departure from Toronto is scheduled on the A321XLR, so ask what flies the one you want.
  2. Check the season. Ottawa and Halifax move to the A321XLR for winter 2026/27, and Toronto–Manchester is moving to the A321XLR as well. The same route can carry a different aircraft in summer and in winter.
  3. Read the seat map. A long 1-2-1 cabin means a widebody. A short cabin with 14 herringbone seats means the A321XLR.
  4. Plan for a swap. Airlines change aircraft for maintenance and disruption. We tell you what is scheduled, and we check it again nearer departure.

Do not rely on the route name. "Air Canada to London" can be a 787 overnight or a single-aisle daytime flight. If a seller cannot tell you the flight number and the scheduled aircraft, nothing has been confirmed.

04 Heathrow, Manchester, and where else you can start

Heathrow is Air Canada's main UK airport, and Manchester is the second. Air Canada flies from Heathrow Terminal 2, with check-in in Zone A, and its December 2026 London network links Heathrow with six Canadian cities.

  • Heathrow to Toronto has the most frequent service, rising to up to five flights a day from May 2027.
  • Heathrow to Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal are the nonstops to the west and to Quebec.
  • Heathrow to Ottawa switches to three weekly A321XLR flights from 2 December 2026 to 26 March 2027, leaving Ottawa in the morning and arriving in the evening.
  • Manchester to Toronto is the one nonstop outside London, moving to the A321XLR and building to daily from June 2027.

Air Canada's other UK flying has varied from season to season. If you live in Scotland, the Midlands or the South West, tell us your airport: we will check whether a nonstop runs on your dates, or whether a connection onto a Heathrow flight on the same ticket is the better shape.

Getting to Heathrow on your own is flexible, but a missed flight caused by a late train is your problem, not the airline's. A connecting flight on the same ticket is slower, but the connection is protected.

05 The daytime crossing: a real choice on some routes

Eastbound flights from Canada to the UK have traditionally left in the evening and landed in the morning, which is a short night even in a flat bed. The A321XLR is changing that on several routes.

Overnight eastbound

  • Leave Canada in the evening, land in the UK the next morning
  • The flat bed matters most here
  • You gain a day, but start it short of sleep

Daytime eastbound

  • Leave Canada in the morning, land in the UK in the evening
  • Filed for Ottawa and Halifax this winter and a fifth daily Toronto flight from May 2027
  • Go to bed at home and wake up on UK time

On the westbound flight from the UK, the difference is smaller, because you fly with the sun either way. If jet lag on the return is what you dread, ask us about the daytime options for your dates.

06 Lounges at Heathrow and in Canada

At Heathrow, Air Canada runs its own Maple Leaf Lounge in the Terminal 2B satellite building. Signature Class passengers are admitted, and Air Canada's own Heathrow page also lists an arrivals lounge in the Terminal 2 arrivals hall for business class passengers. Ask us to confirm it is open on your arrival date.

In Canada, Signature Class gives access to Maple Leaf Lounges, which Air Canada operates at 17 airports across Canada, the United States and Europe, and to Star Alliance lounges elsewhere. Air Canada also offers concierge help at Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, including when a connection between two Signature Class flights is at risk.

The Signature Suite is for the flight home, not the flight out. This restaurant-style lounge, in Toronto and Vancouver, serves eligible Signature Class passengers departing on international flights. A UK traveller would use it on the return. Two details matter in 2026:

  • The Toronto suite closes from 30 September 2026 for expansion. A partial reopening is expected in December 2026 and full completion in early 2027. In the meantime eligible passengers get a priority line at the international Maple Leaf Lounge.
  • Eligibility depends on the fare. Air Canada excludes some ticket types, including upgrades and certain reward bookings, so we check your fare before you count on it.

07 Star Alliance, Aeroplan and what it means for a UK flyer

Air Canada is one of the five airlines that founded Star Alliance in May 1997, and its loyalty programme is Aeroplan.

For a UK traveller this has one practical consequence: Air Canada does not earn Avios. Avios belongs to British Airways and its oneworld partners. If you hold status with a Star Alliance airline, such as Lufthansa or United, an Air Canada flight is the one that counts towards it.

Star Alliance membership also shapes the lounge picture. Where Air Canada has no Maple Leaf Lounge of its own, Signature Class gives you access to Star Alliance lounges instead.

We will not tell you that one programme is always better value. That depends on what you already hold and where you fly next.

08 Air Canada against the realistic alternatives from the UK

For most Canadian cities the realistic comparison is between two nonstop airlines, or a nonstop against a one-stop through a US hub.

How the options compare on the things that decide a business-class booking to Canada. Checked 25 September 2026; schedules and fleets move.

Air Canada is strongest when your city is one of its nonstops and you value aisle access from every seat over a door. If a door matters more than anything else, compare it with our British Airways page and ask us which flights carry Club Suite on your dates.

09 What an Air Canada business class fare from the UK depends on

There is no single Air Canada business class price. The fare comes from your dates, your UK airport, your Canadian city, how far ahead you book and which fare classes are still open on that flight.

  • Date flexibility. Moving a day or two either way is often the biggest lever.
  • The aircraft. A 14-seat A321XLR cabin has far fewer business seats to sell than a widebody, so the fare classes on those flights can close sooner.
  • Season. Summer, the ski season and school holidays all move the fare.
  • Heathrow or Manchester. The two airports are priced separately, and a connecting domestic flight changes the fare again.
  • The fare type. Some ticket types do not include Signature Suite access, so two fares in the same cabin are not always the same product.

We quote a fare we can issue on your dates. Bookings we ticket are ATOL protected where the scheme applies (ATOL Protected).

10 Where we actually price Air Canada from the UK

Product detail is only half of a booking decision. The other half is whether we can actually price Air Canada to the place you are going.

Below are the 4 destinations where our own destination research records Air Canada. The fares are live, and the notes are reproduced exactly as they were verified for that destination — including the awkward ones.

Destinations we price where Air Canada is recorded in our verified destination research. Business Class, per passenger, return, excluding taxes and carrier charges, subject to availability.
DestinationBusiness Class fromWhat we verified
OttawaFrom £1,649Nonstop from the UK
VancouverFrom £1,847Nonstop from the UK
CalgaryFrom £1,914Nonstop from the UK
MontrealFrom £2,349Nonstop from the UK

The lowest of them is Ottawa at From £1,649. Open any destination for the departure airports it is flown from, what the journey looks like from each UK city, and the fare from your own airport rather than the lowest one on the network.

If your destination is not on this list it does not mean we cannot sell you Air Canada — it means our research for that destination does not record the carrier, so a routing would be checked at quote rather than assumed here. Ask and we will tell you which it is.

FAQ Air Canada Business Class: your questions answered

These are the questions UK travellers actually ask us about Air Canada. Every answer here also appears in here's structured data, word for word.

Air Canada sells its long-haul business cabin as Signature Class. Air Canada lists it on its mainline Boeing 787, Boeing 777, Airbus A330 and Airbus A321XLR aircraft, with a seat that converts to a fully flat bed.

Not on the aircraft flying UK routes today. The widebody Signature Class seat is a 1-2-1 reverse-herringbone without a door, and the A321XLR seat is also open to the aisle. Doors arrive with the Boeing 787-10, and Air Canada has not announced that aircraft for any UK route.

London Heathrow is the main UK gateway, with nonstop flights to Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa, plus Halifax. Manchester has a nonstop to Toronto. Any other UK departure varies by season, so we check your dates before quoting.

The A321XLR is a single-aisle jet with 14 lie-flat Signature Class seats in a herringbone layout, each angled towards the aisle with a 19-inch 4K screen and Bluetooth audio. There is no door, and with only 14 seats the cabin is small and can sell out early.

It is different rather than simply worse. You still get a flat bed and aisle access. What changes is the scale of the cabin, the number of business seats, the galley and toilet ratio of a single-aisle aircraft, and often the timing, because several A321XLR London flights leave Canada in the morning as daytime crossings.

Air Canada has filed A321XLR daytime departures from Ottawa and Halifax to Heathrow for winter 2026/27, and a fifth daily Toronto to Heathrow flight leaving Toronto in the morning from 1 May 2027. Schedules change, so we confirm timings for your exact dates.

Air Canada flies from Heathrow Terminal 2 and operates its own Maple Leaf Lounge in the Terminal 2B satellite building. Signature Class passengers are admitted, and Air Canada also lists an arrivals lounge in Terminal 2 for business class passengers.

Not on the way out. The Signature Suite in Toronto and Vancouver is for eligible Signature Class passengers departing those airports on international flights, so a UK traveller would use it on the flight home. The Toronto suite closes from 30 September 2026 for expansion, with a partial reopening expected in December 2026.

No. Signature Class is Air Canada's top cabin on UK routes. The four Signature Plus suites planned for the Boeing 787-10 are sold within business class, and that aircraft has not been announced for a UK route.

Air Canada is a Star Alliance airline and its own programme is Aeroplan. Avios belongs to oneworld airlines such as British Airways, so an Air Canada flight earns in Aeroplan or another Star Alliance programme, not in Avios.

Our own destination research records Air Canada on 4 of the destinations we sell, including Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary. The full list with live fares is in the table above, and each one links to the detail for your departure airport.

Yes, and we build journeys that way by default. On one through ticket a delay is the responsibility of the airline and you are rebooked, usually with a hotel. On two separate bookings a missed connection is yours, at your own cost. Where splitting genuinely saves enough to be worth it, we will show you both and say plainly what risk you would be taking on.

We can tell you the scheduled aircraft and how stable that rotation has been, and we re-check closer to departure. What nobody can promise is that an aircraft is never substituted. On Air Canada the difference that matters is the cabin you are picturing against the one that actually flies, so we confirm it in writing on the quote rather than leaving you to read a seat map.

Yes. If a nonstop on another carrier gets you there in less time, or a different airline is materially cheaper on your dates, we will say so even though it means not selling you Air Canada. A booking that disappoints costs us more than a fare we did not write.

Your dates, your nearest UK airport, where you are going and who is travelling. Anything that constrains the trip helps too — a fixed meeting at the far end, a preference for a nonstop, or a specific cabin you have set your heart on. Call 07862 620009.
