Air France business class from the UK: is the Paris connection worth it for the suite with a door?

Air France does not fly long-haul from Britain. Every business class trip starts with a short hop to Paris-Charles de Gaulle, where you change onto the long-haul aircraft. That first flight is European Business: a standard seat with the one beside it left empty, not a bed. The prize is the long-haul leg, where refitted Boeing 777-300ERs and the newer Airbus A350s carry a suite with a sliding door. We confirm which aircraft is on your flight before you commit.

Air France Business Class from the UK, in short

Air France business class from the UK is a one-stop journey through Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG): a short flight from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle or Edinburgh, then a long-haul flight onward. On that first leg, Business is an economy-style seat with the neighbouring seat kept empty. The long-haul leg is a lie-flat seat with aisle access, and on refitted Boeing 777-300ERs and newer Airbus A350s it becomes a suite with a door. Check the aircraft before you pay. Call 07862 620009.

  • Hub: Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG); no Air France nonstop from the UK beyond Paris.
  • UK airports: Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Edinburgh.
  • Suite with a door: refitted 777-300ERs and newer A350s only.
  • Alliance and loyalty: SkyTeam founding member; Flying Blue, shared with KLM.
  • ATOL Protected — financially protected bookings

01 What you are really buying: two flights and a change at Charles de Gaulle

Air France has no long-haul flight from the UK. Every business class ticket from Britain is a short flight to Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and then a long-haul flight from there. That fact decides whether Air France belongs on your shortlist at all.

The trade-off is simple to state. Against a nonstop from Heathrow, you add a take-off, a landing and a connection, and your total journey time grows. In return you get access to a large long-haul network from Paris, a choice of six UK starting airports rather than one, and on the right aircraft a business suite with a door.

That trade-off varies by destination. Where British Airways or Virgin Atlantic fly nonstop from London, the Paris routing has to win on the aircraft, the schedule or the fare. Where there is no UK nonstop, or where you live nearer Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle or Edinburgh than Heathrow, a one-stop through Paris can be a very reasonable way to travel.

We will tell you plainly when a nonstop is the better answer for your trip, even if that means it is not Air France.

02 The long-haul business seats, and which aircraft carry them

Air France sells one long-haul Business cabin, but the seat depends on the aircraft and even on which version of that aircraft you get. In 2026 the realistic outcomes look like this:

Door

Refitted Boeing 777-300ER

  • Reverse-herringbone suites in a 1-2-1 layout, each with a sliding door.
  • Direct aisle access and a fully flat bed from every seat.
  • USB-C, wireless charging and Bluetooth audio.
  • 60 business seats in two cabins on the four-cabin version, which also carries La Première.
Door

Newer Airbus A350

  • A 1-2-1 suite with a closing door, though the walls are fairly low.
  • A 20-inch 4K screen.
  • Fitted to roughly half of Air France's A350s, according to Head for Points in January 2026.
No door

Earlier A350 and Boeing 787-9

  • A 1-2-1 reverse-herringbone seat that lies flat.
  • Direct aisle access from every seat.
  • The 787-9 seat is narrower, with a smaller screen than the A350.
  • A good seat, just an earlier one.

If you miss the door, you lose privacy, not the basics. On the 777-300ER, A350 and 787-9 you still lie flat and still reach the aisle without stepping over anyone.

Two parts of the fleet are less clear. Air France has not announced a refit for its high-density 777-300ERs, which carry only 14 business seats and fly mainly leisure routes, or for its 777-200ERs. If one of those is scheduled, we will show you the seat map and let you decide.

03 How to confirm the aircraft before you pay

Air France is still moving refitted and non-refitted aircraft around its network. The same route can carry a suite with a door in the morning and an earlier seat in the evening, so the route name alone tells you very little.

  1. Start from the flight number. Aircraft are scheduled by flight, and the long-haul departure from Paris is the one that matters.
  2. Check which version is scheduled, not just the type. "Boeing 777-300ER" can mean a refitted four-cabin aircraft, a three-cabin one or a high-density one. "A350" can mean the newer suite or the earlier seat.
  3. Read the seat map for that departure. Seat numbering and cabin size differ between versions, and a seat map shows it more reliably than a photograph.
  4. Expect swaps. Maintenance and disruption can change the aircraft at short notice. Nobody can promise a specific plane months ahead. We confirm what is scheduled, tell you how settled that flight has been, and check again nearer departure.

If the door is the reason you are choosing Air France, make that decision on the scheduled aircraft for your flight. A press release about the fleet does not tell you what flies on your date.

04 Six UK airports, and what Business means on the flight to Paris

In 2026 Air France flies to Paris-Charles de Gaulle from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Edinburgh. Heathrow has the most flights, at around seven a day. Gatwick returned to the network on 29 March 2026 with two a day.

Published schedules in early 2026 showed roughly three daily flights each from Manchester and Birmingham, two from Edinburgh and two or three from Newcastle. More departures give you more ways to reach a given long-haul flight, and more fallback options if one is cancelled.

Be clear about what Business means on this first flight. Within Europe, Air France Business uses the same seat as economy, with the seat next to you kept empty. On the Airbus A220, which flies from Heathrow and Gatwick, the cabin is laid out 2-3: travelling alone you get a pair of seats with one blocked, and travelling as two you get three seats with the middle one empty. You also get priority handling, a proper meal and power at your seat. You do not get a bed, and on a short hop to Paris you do not need one.

Because both flights are on one ticket, Air France is responsible for the connection. If your UK flight is late and you miss the Paris departure, the airline rebooks you onto a later flight. You would not have that protection if you bought the flight to Paris separately.

05 The connection at Charles de Gaulle, and the lounges on the way

Charles de Gaulle is a large airport. Air France operates mainly from Terminal 2, and a connection can mean moving between areas of 2E and 2F. Allow for that when you choose a connection time. A slightly longer connection is almost always the better buy: a delay on the flight from the UK then costs you lounge time, not your long-haul seat.

Air France runs business lounges in Terminal 2E (Halls K, L and M) and Terminal 2F. The one you use depends on where your onward flight leaves from.

  • Hall K was redesigned and reopened on 2 April 2025. It now covers about 2,800 square metres over three floors and seats 638 people.
  • It has a Clarins spa with complimentary treatments, shower suites, dining areas, a rest zone and a co-working floor with a meeting room.
  • It is open daily from 05:30 to 23:30 for SkyTeam business passengers and SkyTeam Elite Plus members on long-haul and non-Schengen flights.

Lounges close for refurbishment and access rules change, so treat a named lounge as what you should expect, not as a promise. We will tell you what applies to your departure.

06 La Première: bookable from the UK, but only on the Paris flight

Air France's First Class, La Première, is sold only on long-haul flights. From the UK you fly to Paris in Business and then take La Première on the long-haul flight, on a route that carries it.

Refitted four-cabin Boeing 777-300ERs carry four La Première suites. Each has an armchair and a separate chaise longue that becomes a bed. Air France said it would complete the La Première refit across its network by the end of 2026.

As of August 2026, La Première routes from Paris included New York JFK, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Washington Dulles, Atlanta, Houston, São Paulo, Singapore, Tokyo Haneda and Abidjan. Dubai and Tel Aviv services were listed as temporarily suspended. A planned Boston launch did not go ahead.

With only four suites on each aircraft, availability is tight. If La Première is what you want, give us your dates early and tell us how flexible you can be.

07 SkyTeam, Flying Blue and the Virgin Atlantic connection

Air France is a founding member of SkyTeam, the alliance it formed in 2000 with Delta, Aeroméxico and Korean Air. Virgin Atlantic joined in March 2023 as SkyTeam's first UK airline, which makes the alliance much more relevant to British travellers than it used to be.

Air France and KLM share one loyalty programme, Flying Blue. Experience Points (XP) move you up the tiers: Silver at 100 XP, Gold at 180 and Platinum at 300. Ultimate sits above Platinum. Miles are a separate balance that you spend. Platinum carries SkyTeam Elite Plus benefits, including lounge access across the alliance.

If you already collect with Virgin Atlantic or Delta, flying Air France can still count towards your own programme, because they are alliance partners. How much you earn depends on the fare you book and the partner's earning rules, so we check that on the specific fare rather than guess.

We will not tell you a points balance is worth more than it is. Premium-cabin reward seats are limited, and they vary from week to week.

08 Air France against the airlines you are realistically comparing

For the Americas, the question is usually whether the Paris aircraft and schedule beat a London nonstop by enough to justify the extra stop. For a traveller in the North of England or Scotland, starting at your local airport and changing in Paris can mean less effort overall than getting to Heathrow first.

09 What an Air France business class fare from the UK depends on

There is no single Air France business class price. Your fare depends on which UK airport you start from, where you are flying to from Paris, your dates, how early you book and which fare classes are still open on both flights.

  • Your UK airport. Heathrow, Gatwick and the regional airports can price differently for the same long-haul flight.
  • Where you fly from Paris. Long-haul routes price independently of each other, and routes with the newest aircraft attract strong demand.
  • How flexible your dates are. Moving by a day or two is often the biggest single change to the fare.
  • Peak dates. School holidays and major events in the destination push business fares up sharply.
  • The shape of the trip. A return, a one-way or flying home from a different city are all priced differently. We compare them.

We do not advertise a figure we cannot book or claim a fixed discount against the airline. The number we quote is one we can ticket on your dates. Bookings we ticket are ATOL protected where the scheme applies (ATOL Protected).

FAQ Air France Business Class: your questions answered

These are the questions UK travellers actually ask us about Air France. Every answer here also appears in here's structured data, word for word.

No. Air France flies from UK airports to Paris-Charles de Gaulle, and every long-haul Air France itinerary from the UK connects there. If you want a nonstop from Britain, you need a UK-based carrier such as British Airways or Virgin Atlantic on the routes they fly.

On flights within Europe, Air France Business uses the same seat as economy, with the seat next to you left empty. On the Airbus A220, which Air France uses from Heathrow and Gatwick, that means a pair of seats with one blocked or a group of three with the middle blocked. You get priority service and a meal, but not a flat bed.

The suite with a sliding door is fitted to Air France Boeing 777-300ERs that have been refitted with the new cabin, and to the newer Airbus A350s. Earlier A350s and the Boeing 787-9 have a 1-2-1 lie-flat seat with direct aisle access but no door. Air France has not announced a refit for its high-density 777-300ERs or its 777-200ERs.

The main long-haul types, the 777-300ER, the A350 and the 787-9, all have lie-flat business seats in a 1-2-1 layout, so nobody climbs over a neighbour. Some older or high-density aircraft differ, so we check the seat map for your exact flight rather than assume.

Look at the flight number and the scheduled aircraft, not the route. Air France is still moving refitted 777-300ERs and newer A350s around its network, so two flights on the same route can carry different cabins. We confirm the scheduled aircraft before you pay and re-check nearer departure, although aircraft swaps can still happen.

Air France runs business lounges in Terminal 2E, in Halls K, L and M, and in Terminal 2F. The Hall K lounge, redesigned in April 2025, covers three floors and has a Clarins spa, showers and a co-working area. The lounge you use depends on the hall your onward flight leaves from.

You can book La Première on the long-haul flight from Paris on routes that carry it, such as New York JFK, Los Angeles, Singapore and Tokyo Haneda. The flight from the UK to Paris is sold in Business, because Air France has no First cabin in Europe. Each equipped 777-300ER has four La Première suites.

Yes. Air France is a founding member of SkyTeam, and Virgin Atlantic joined SkyTeam in March 2023 as its first UK airline. Delta and KLM are also members, which matters if you collect points with one of those airlines or hold SkyTeam status.

Air France and KLM share one programme, Flying Blue. You earn Experience Points towards Silver, Gold, Platinum and Ultimate status, and Miles to spend on flights. Flying on SkyTeam partners also earns Flying Blue credit, subject to the fare you book.

They are sister airlines with the same loyalty programme, but different hubs: Air France connects at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and KLM at Amsterdam Schiphol. The better choice usually comes down to which hub has the better-timed connection to your destination and which long-haul aircraft flies it.

Yes, and we build journeys that way by default. On one through ticket a delay is the responsibility of the airline and you are rebooked, usually with a hotel. On two separate bookings a missed connection is yours, at your own cost. Where splitting genuinely saves enough to be worth it, we will show you both and say plainly what risk you would be taking on.

We can tell you the scheduled aircraft and how stable that rotation has been, and we re-check closer to departure. What nobody can promise is that an aircraft is never substituted. On Air France the difference that matters is the cabin you are picturing against the one that actually flies, so we confirm it in writing on the quote rather than leaving you to read a seat map.

Yes. If a nonstop on another carrier gets you there in less time, or a different airline is materially cheaper on your dates, we will say so even though it means not selling you Air France. A booking that disappoints costs us more than a fare we did not write.

Your dates, your nearest UK airport, where you are going and who is travelling. Anything that constrains the trip helps too — a fixed meeting at the far end, a preference for a nonstop, or a specific cabin you have set your heart on. Call 07862 620009.
