Which Australian city should you fly into in business class from the UK?
Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide are different aviation problems: NSW, Victoria, Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia. This page is the overview. The city pages hold the commercial detail. ATOL protected.
- Choose the city before the airline advert
- Gulf, Asia or Kangaroo — confirm the aircraft

How to read these fares
These are 5 separate fare entities, not one “Australia fare”, not a ranking and not a savings claim. Each city page carries its own dated figure.
- Business, lowest £2,863 Brisbane
- Business, highest £3,477 Melbourne
- First Class range £4,428–£5,634 Across 5 cities
Current private returns from the UK, not live inventory. Do not compare a city guide with a one-way screenshot or a different month — open the city page for the cabin you need.
Everything you need to know
Written for this hub — the decision layer above the city pages.
If the search is “business class to Australia”, the first useful decision is which city. Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide are not interchangeable arrivals. This page is the overview: who should land where, which UK airports and airline families actually appear, and when to open a city page instead of staying here.

What should you decide before you pick an airline?
Name the Australian city you need to wake up in. Then choose a routing family (Kangaroo / Gulf one-stop / Asia one-stop). Then confirm the aircraft and fare rules. Doing that in reverse — picking a Qsuite advert, then discovering you needed Perth not Sydney — is how people buy the wrong second sector.
My Upcoming Trip tickets ATOL-protected (ATOL Protected) premium cabins from the UK. Current private fares sit on each city page — we will not flatten five cities into one “Australia from £x” headline.
Which Australian cities are commercially relevant from the UK?
| City | Airport | Use this arrival when | City page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sydney | SYD | NSW work or family; the default east-coast long-haul | Sydney business class |
| Melbourne | MEL | Victoria; often a different capacity and fare shape from Sydney | Melbourne business class |
| Perth | PER | Western Australia; Indian Ocean routing; possible London nonstop on some dates | Perth business class |
| Brisbane | BNE | Queensland; Gold Coast hotels still usually arrive here, not OOL | Brisbane business class |
| Adelaide | ADL | South Australia; not a Melbourne hop; thinner UK premium banks than SYD/MEL | Adelaide business class |
Every commercially justified Australian city on this site now has a destination page. Auckland is New Zealand, not an Australian domestic. If AKL is the arrival, use the Auckland page.
UK departure airports
Heathrow carries the widest Australia long-haul choice. Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow show up more often on one-stop Gulf and Asian metal than on a true nonstop. Perth is the city where a London nonstop is a live schedule question (Qantas), not a slogan. If you live in the North or the Midlands, a Manchester origin can beat a cheaper Heathrow fare plus a hotel. Name the airport you can reach at 05:00.
Which airlines actually compete on UK–Australia premium?
- Qatar Airways — Doha one-stop; Qsuite only on equipped aircraft.
- Emirates — Dubai one-stop; A380 vs 777 is the product question, not the brand name.
- Singapore Airlines — Changi; watch the aircraft after Singapore if you are not staying in SIN.
- Cathay Pacific — Hong Kong; Aria Suite is selected 777s, not every long-haul seat.
- British Airways — Kangaroo / joint UK–Australia story when that metal is on the ticket; Club Suite is not every Club World seat.
- Qantas — relevant on Kangaroo sectors and on the Perth–London nonstop when it operates. Confirm the aircraft; we do not have a standalone Qantas landing on this site yet.
Etihad can appear via Abu Dhabi. It is not the default Australia story. Product notes stay on the Etihad page.
Route patterns (country level, not a city clone)
- Kangaroo / joint UK–Australia — simplest airline relationship when the seat on your date is the one you wanted. East-coast elapsed time is still ultra-long-haul.
- Gulf one-stop — Doha or Dubai (sometimes Abu Dhabi). You are usually buying a suite or a connection bank, not a shorter day than Kangaroo.
- Asia one-stop — Singapore or Hong Kong. Different lounge, different overnight pattern, different frequent-flyer currency.
Perth often has a shorter second sector after the hub than Sydney or Melbourne. That is geography, not a reason to land in PER for a Monday in Circular Quay.
How the authored cities differ — without repeating those pages
| Sydney | Melbourne | Perth | Brisbane | Adelaide | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coast / state | NSW, Pacific | Victoria | WA, Indian Ocean | Queensland | South Australia |
| Typical UK premium shape | One-stop or Kangaroo | One-stop or Kangaroo | One-stop; nonstop LHR on some dates | One-stop (Gulf/Asia); not a Perth-style London nonstop | One-stop into ADL, or SYD/MEL plus domestic |
| What the city page is for | Ultra-long-haul SYD brief | Why MEL can price unlike SYD | West-coast routing and the nonstop question | BNE vs OOL, vs a Sydney hop | ADL vs a Melbourne hop |
Open the city page when you already know the arrival. Stay here when the question is still “Australia”.
Fare context — how to read the current private figures
Each city page shows a current private UK business-class return, dated on that page. On the same fare snapshot those figures have not been identical: Perth has sat below Sydney, and Melbourne has sat above Sydney. That is a briefing, not a live ranking, and it is not a savings claim.
Do not compare a city guide with a one-way screenshot, a different month, or a fare that dropped chauffeur or change flexibility. Do not treat an old “under £3,000 to Sydney” headline as a live band — the Sydney page says so explicitly.
Timing and airline mix at country level, rather than one city: tell the desk which month you can move, and read the carrier detail on the Emirates and Qatar Airways guides. Those are supporting context. They are not a fourth destination page.
Who each destination suits
- Sydney — NSW itinerary, harbour/CBD, the east-coast default.
- Melbourne — Victoria itinerary; price it as its own city even when a Sydney screenshot looks cheaper.
- Perth — west-coast work or leisure; do not use it as a cheap door into the east.
- Brisbane — Queensland itinerary or a Gold Coast stay that still wants BNE; not a substitute for Sydney.
- Adelaide — South Australia work, wine country or festivals; not a Melbourne screenshot.
- Two cities — say so. A triangle or a domestic add-on on one ticket is a real product.

Australia business class FAQs
Questions for this overview. City-specific FAQs stay on the five authored city pages.
Which Australian city should I fly into from the UK in business class?
Fly into the city where you need to be. Sydney (SYD) is NSW, Melbourne (MEL) Victoria, Perth (PER) Western Australia, Brisbane (BNE) Queensland, Adelaide (ADL) South Australia. Do not pick the cheapest current private fare and then take a domestic across the continent unless that extra sector is on the same ticket.
Is Perth cheaper than Sydney in business class?
On our current fare snapshot, the Perth private return sits below Sydney and Melbourne. That is a briefing on those city pages, not a live rule. Capacity, season and the second sector can reverse it. We quote the city you named.
Heathrow or Manchester for Australia?
Heathrow has the wider long-haul choice, including the Perth–London nonstop conversation when Qantas operates it. Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow appear more often on Gulf or Asian one-stops. The better airport is the one you can reach without a hotel and a dawn transfer.
Qatar or Emirates for Australia?
They are both one-stop Gulf options. Qatar’s selling point is Qsuite on equipped aircraft via Doha. Emirates is the Dubai connection; the A380 bar is aircraft-specific. Confirm the metal. City-level comparison stays on the city pages and on the Emirates vs Qatar Australia article.
How long is the UK to Australia in business class?
It is ultra-long-haul. Near-nonstop Kangaroo sectors are in the high teens of hours. One-stops via the Gulf or Asia typically land in the low-to-mid twenties of hours elapsed, depending on the connection. We quote elapsed time on the flights we offer.
Is there a nonstop business class flight from London to Australia?
Qantas has sold a nonstop Perth–London Heathrow service; we only confirm it when it is on the ticket. East-coast Australia is usually one-stop or a Kangaroo/joint routing, not a daily Heathrow–Sydney shuttle. Availability changes by season.
When is business class to Australia expensive?
Australian summer and Christmas/New Year into the east coast are the tight premium windows. School holidays and late booking against a thin cabin also push fares up. Shoulder periods can be kinder. We will not publish a guaranteed cheapest month.
Can I do Sydney and Melbourne on one ticket?
Often yes, as a domestic add-on on the same international ticket. Two separate returns are how people waste a day and a fare rule. Tell us both cities.
What about Adelaide compared with Melbourne or Brisbane?
Adelaide (ADL) is our South Australia destination page: not a Melbourne hop, not Queensland, and not a Perth-style London nonstop. If your trip is in Victoria, use Melbourne. If it is South Australia, use Adelaide.
